What is ear pinning ?
The ears are not the first thing you notice about a person’s appearance, but for those who have outstanding ”wing-nut ears,” it affects both their appearance and self-esteem negatively. The problem can be fairly easily remedied with ear pinning. This procedure is especially common in school children and is often carried out by the county council. Of course, we welcome both children and adults. During the operation of minors, parental consent is required.
How is an ear pinning performed ?
During the procedure, the surgeon angles your ears back so that they come closer to the head. This is done by making a small incision at the back of the ears. The cartilage is then folded back, possibly in combination with a scraping of the ear cartilage centrally for optimal results. The end result is a new and well-shaped ear fold, which better harmonizes with the rest of your look. The incision placements make them virtually invisible and the scars that arise often disappear with time. The operation takes about an hour. During the procedure, either local or general anesthesia is used, depending on how extensive the surgery is. Since the surgeon is working right next to your ear the sound can be experienced as being unpleasant and sedation may be preferable.
Before the surgery
Before the surgery, you will always see a skilled plastic surgeon that analyzes your ear’s appearance and shape. Based on your needs and individual circumstances the surgeon determines if the correction is appropriate. Common problems are that the ear canal opening is too large or that the fold at the outer part of the ear is missing. Earlobes can also be perceived as being too big. We always try, as much as possible, to find a solution that best suits you. You will of course also get answers to all the questions you may have.
After the surgery
You can usually go home the same day as the surgery takes place. During the first week after surgery, you get to wear a bandage around the head for the ears to be fixed in their new positions; it is important to avoid the ears bending forward. Then you only need to have a headband at night for 3-4 weeks. You should avoid physical exercise during the first few weeks, and in some cases, it takes up to six months before the healing process is complete. You might experience an aching pain at first, but it can be alleviated properly with ordinary painkillers. After about a week you get to come back to Estetikcentrum for a check-up. Then we review the results of the operation and ensure that the healing is progressing as it should. After another 4-6 months, it’s time for yet another visit. That’s when we perform the last check-up on your ear pinning procedure.
