Introduction of Yazd six winds reservoir

The city of Yazd can be considered the city of reservoirs. It is clear that the dry and desert climate and weather conditions of Yazd and subsequently the low rain and measures to compensate for the lack of water have caused the formation of water reservoirs in this city. Six wind Reservoir is one of these reservoirs, which is considered one of the sightseeing places of Yazd today. This reservoir belongs to the Qajar era and was included in the list of national monuments of Iran on March 24, 1978 . Six Wind Reservoir is the only Six Wind Rreservoir in Yazd, which owes its fame to its lofty, beautiful and octagonal wind dams, as well as its huge egg-shaped dome.
The builders have made octagonal wind deflectors for the best efficiency of the heavy winds in Yazd. The height of the reservoir and windbreaks, the beautiful architecture of the windbreak, beautiful gables and brick decorations with moqrans work and eye-catching applications are among the advantages of the six windbreak reservoirs in Yazd.
The reservoir was still thriving until a few decades ago and people used to draw water from it; But today it has become a historical and religious attraction. The space between the entrance door and its dome is used for setting up the Hosseinieh tent.

Architecture of Six Badgir Reservoir in Yazd

Entrances and dome : The Yazd reservoir has six windbreaks, two north and south entrances with two steps and two pashirs, which seems to have been the southern entrance for Muslims and the northern entrance was similar to the southern entrance for Zoroastrians; However, in some sources, this hypothesis has been rejected and the reason for this is the crowding of the neighborhood and its establishment in the urban context. At the entrance of the southern part, between the 25th and 26th stairs, there is a vestibule with a brick pavement, and the arch of the reservoir begins after the vestibule.
It is interesting to know that the staircase of the reservoir consists of two parts; So that one part of it is open and its 55 stairs reach to the head of the reservoir and the covered part is next to the stairs and after the head.
The dome of the reservoir has an egg shape, which gives a special beauty to its architecture. The height of the water tank is 12.6 meters and the height of the wind deflectors is 10 meters.
wind deflectors : The reservoir of six wind turbines has six wind turbines, three wind turbines were built from the beginning and the other three wind turbines were added later. With a little precision in the shape of the wind deflectors, the difference between the three old wind deflectors and its other wind deflectors is evident. According to the climatic conditions, the 6 windbreaks of the reservoir are built in the direction of the wind and in an octagonal shape. The height of all 6 windbreaks of the reservoir is 10 meters.
Different parts of six wind reservoirs : Most of the water reservoirs had four elements in common: Khazine, Gonbad, Pashir and Badgir, each of these four elements played a role in preserving water. The six wind reservoir also had these four elements. Treasures were dug in the heart of the earth because of the dominance of water and its coolness. The hemispherical dome was built over the treasure space to prevent water pollution. The pashir consisted of a stepped corridor that was built to collect water, and windbreaks were built to keep cool and direct cool air into the vault.
The manufacturer of six wind reservoirs : Six Badgiri Reservoir, which is one of the most beautiful reservoirs in Yazd, was built by Haji Mohammad Hossein Khair, the son of Nurullah Yazdi, and it is considered the only building of Six Windbreaks in Iran. The deed of the water reservoir is available and according to it, Haj Mohammad Hossein used the properties he had in Yazd and Taft to build the water reservoir. After him, a person named Beheshtian filled the reservoir with water from Waqfabad, the most important running water of Yazd city.
