Sardar Bozor Ab Anbar is located in Rah Ray neighborhood and east of Qazvin Rah Ahan Street, on the corner of Shahid Alavi Street.

History of The mansion of Sardar Mofkham Qazvin

Qazvin city once had more than 100 reservoirs; But now the number of healthy reservoirs has reached less than 10. The main reason for this can be considered the rapid expansion of Qazvin city and its high acceptance of immigrants, which caused constructions in the old fabric of the city so that new immigrants can settle in it. One of these reservoirs is the Sardar Bozor Reservoir, which was registered as a large and interesting structure in the urban water supply system in 1976 with number 1337 in the list of national monuments of Iran.

This historical water reservoir was built by two brothers named Mohammad Hasan Khan and Mohammad Hossein Khan, one of the nobles of Fath Ali Shah, in the most arid neighborhood of Qazvin city, namely “Rah Ri” neighborhood. In the Sardar inscription, these two founders and its repair in 1978 by Qazvin Municipality are mentioned. Interestingly, there are two Ab-Anbar in Qazvin named Sardar Bozor and Sardar Koochak which contrary to the imagination of tourists, Sardar Bozor reservoir is smaller in terms of volume than Sardar Koochak reservoir and the reason for their names was only because of their builders.

The architecture of Sardar-e Bozorg Ab Anbar ( water reservoir )

On both sides of the entrance of Sardar Bozor Reservoir, you will face a stone platform for sitting and resting. This section has a wide archway with a transept arch and two side arches in two floors, which are given double beauty by brickwork and tilework with a geometric design. Next, there is the access path to Pashir for water harvesting, which includes a total of 48 stone steps and each step is 25 cm high. On this route, you can see the covering of Taqahang; In addition, part of the covering at the beginning of Rahshir entrance has brickwork decorations along with the formalization and use of decorative narrow feet and tiling. At the end of Rahshir, there is a part known as “Pashir” and in the past, people had to go down this path and go down 12.5 meters to access water.
The water tank of this building with a volume of 4,900 cubic meters is square in shape, on which a beautiful and lofty dome has been created on a square base and has given a special beauty to its space. The height of the highest point of this brick dome to the bottom of the reservoir is about 28 meters; However, later they filled its floor to the extent of three meters and in this way, its height reached 25.5 meters. In addition to the central wind deflector, which is located in the highest part of the dome, four mesh holes have been used for air ventilation in the dome. The reservoir dome does not look so big from the outside; But by going down the stairs and reaching inside the reservoir, the greatness and grandeur of the dome and the creativity of its architects are admired.
The material used in the building of the large reservoir is lime shaft with saroj cover with a diameter of about three meters. If you look closely at the inner walls of the building, you will see that they are not completely smooth. This unevenness was not due to carelessness in architecture, but to create movement in the water and prevent water stagnation and corruption. This building has a good resistance against earthquakes and despite various earthquakes in Qazvin for many years, it has not been damaged due to precise engineering.
