About Qazvin Municipality Mansion

The municipal building is one of the historical buildings of Qazvin, which was built by a Russian company, and the Russians used this building to stay and hold some of their ceremonies. Years later, the first municipality of Iran officially started working in this building, and this approach led to the establishment of other municipalities in other cities.
After restoration, the municipal building was turned into a museum, and a part of it was given to the municipality of Qazvin province. In this museum, you can learn about administrative letters and their style or see which buildings the oldest documents were related to. Other works of the museum include the saddle, the typewriter and radiogram of Sadr al-Ulama (the first mayor of Qazvin), letters sent by the people, more than 2000 documents from the municipal areas, as well as documents related to municipal companies such as the water and electricity company.
This historical building, which was registered as one of Iran’s national monuments on February 16, 2000, with the registration number 2588, is still used as a municipal building and a part of it has been turned into a municipal museum.

History of Qazvin Municipality Mansion

In 1992, the privilege of building the Anzali road to Qazvin was assigned to a Russian company by Naseruddin Shah. This Russian company started building a complex of buildings known as “Cantor” in the pleasant weather area of the northeastern city of Qazvin, of which the Lalezar mansion or the municipality building was one of them. This building was built as a theater to be used by Russian company employees.
Following the communist revolution in 1917 and the abolition of colonial privileges, Russian citizens left Iran and their buildings in Qazvin fell into the hands of the British. After the black coup in 1920, the British left Iran and a part of Kantor area was given to the gendarmerie forces.
Based on the approvals of the meeting of the Board of Ministers on June 7, 1927, Lalezar mansion was handed over to the Ministry of Culture and Education under the title of public school; But on August 29, 1927, during his trip to Qazvin, Reza Shah ordered that this place be used for municipality. In this way, the first municipality of Iran started working.
This historical building was registered as one of Iran’s national monuments on February 16, 2000 with registration number 2588.

Architecture of Qazvin Municipality Building

The municipal building has 6 columns in the south porch, and between the columns, there are square stone bases that are used instead of pots. These cylindrical columns are decorated with snail-shaped decorative capitals with flowers. On top of the forehead of the mansion, four short cube-shaped brick minarets can be seen; In addition, in this section, you can see a decorative arch and decorations made of plaster and brickwork in the knotty style. The doors and windows of the south, east and west of the building have a decorative frame in the shape of an arch and colored glass.

The entrance to the building is two steps above the yard floor. The entrance room, which branches off from the porch, is simple and square and has a floor with black and white tiles and a simple, flat ceiling. Among several large and small rooms of this building, a hall with a size of about 200 meters stands out with simple plaster decorations on the ceiling.
